This article explains HeroClear's supported payment methods, how bank verification works, and answers to common questions about setting up and using payments in HeroClear.
This article explains how to:
Payment methods
HeroClear supports three payment methods:
- Direct Debit (BECS) — Automated debit from your linked bank account. Requires completing the DDR form and verifying your bank account via micro-deposit. This is the primary setup method for most customers.
- Manual PayID — You push funds from your bank to Employment Hero's email PayID (also on the NPP). You can use Manual email PayID while Direct Debit setup is still pending — you do not need to complete automated payment setup to start processing super via HeroClear.
- EFT/Direct Transfer — You can pay funds to Employment Hero directly via EFT payments.
No. You can use manual PayID payments without completing Direct Debit setup. Automated Direct Debit requires the DDR signing and bank verification steps to be completed first.
Not at this stage. HeroClear currently supports one funding account per entity. Multi-account support is on the roadmap — confirm with Employment Hero for the latest status before making any plans that depend on this.
The 10-cent test payment is an entirely optional step that establishes the banking connection between your bank and Employment Hero's PayID before your first real super batch payment.
Key points:
- Processing time: The first manual PayID payment to a new contact can take up to 24 hours. Subsequent payments should be near-instant.
- Purpose: With Payday Super requiring weekly or fortnightly batches, the 10c test confirms the payment rails are working so the real batch transfers quickly.
- Not required: You can skip it and pay your batch directly with no consequence.
If you send the 10-cent test payment, use the exact PayID and exact amount shown in HeroClear, and do not change the description field. If funds left your account but did not appear in HeroClear within 24 business hours, contact Employment Hero support with your organisation ID, batch ID, and bank receipt.
Confirmation of Payee (CoP) is a name-versus-account check that flags mismatches before a payment is sent. HeroClear uses CoP to verify SMSF account details and, where supported, APRA-fund receiving accounts. A CoP mismatch typically means the receiving account name doesn't match the registered fund or member name — correct the data before re-attempting.
Some banks have restrictions that can affect certain HeroClear features. For example, some banks have restrictions on the payment Description field that can affect PayID verification. If you're experiencing issues related to a specific bank, contact Employment Hero support.
Bank verification
After the DDR is signed, Employment Hero sends a small test transaction to your linked bank account. You need to find the exact amount in your bank statement and enter it in cents (e.g. enter "60", not "0.60") into the HeroClear platform to confirm bank account ownership.
Important: Employment Hero sends the deposit to you — you do not send anything.
To enter the amount, go to Payroll Settings > Payments > Funding Accounts > Continue Setup.
You have 3 attempts maximum. After 3 incorrect entries, the account is locked from further verification attempts and you must re-link your bank account to start a fresh micro-deposit.
Always have your bank statement open before entering the amount, and make sure to enter the amount in cents (e.g. "60", not "0.60").
Usually a few hours, although it may take longer if sent outside business hours. If you have not received it after 24 business hours, please contact Employment Hero support.
Common causes include:
- Entering the amount in dollars instead of cents (e.g. "0.60" instead of "60")
- Incorrect bank account details entered during setup
- The amount being communicated incorrectly between staff members
If you believe the amount was entered correctly and it still failed, contact Employment Hero support.
If more than 24 business hours have passed and verification is still showing as pending, contact Employment Hero support.
