The Casual shiftwork pay condition rule set has been updated to include a rule for Paid Family Domestic Violence Leave.
1st
From 1 August, all employees are entitled to 10 days of paid family and domestic violence leave each year. The (Unpaid) Family and Domestic Violence Leave configuration settings under awards have been updated - the leave category is disabled from award leave allowance templates, and the work type is not enabled automatically for all employees. Please ensure that employees no longer use the unpaid leave category or work type.

Please be advised that the annual wage increase will only reflect the newly created pay rate templates and employment agreements as per the 5th of June. Please reassign your employees to the new pay rate templates and employment agreements, then assign the appropriate tags.
We have updated the Joinery and Building Trades Award in line with the single touch payroll phase two employer reporting guidelinesto separately report all-purpose allowances against the relevant allowance classification. Below are the changes made to the award:

When assigning tags, please make sure that you only assign the relevant tag(s) for the allowances to avoid multiple payments for the same category.

Added new pay rate templates and employment agreements for each classification level, which splits the all-purpose allowances from the base rates.

Updated the rule for stonemasonry tools and equipment allowance to make sure that it will apply as an all-purpose allowance as per clause 21.4(b).

Created new rules for scaffolding allowance to make sure the Industry allowance will apply correctly when an employee has one of the following tags as per clauses 21.6 and 21.7:

We have disabled unpaid pandemic leave as this entitlement has now expired within this award. You can find additional information on the Fair Work Australia website.
We have updated the unpaid pandemic leave pay category and it now counts as service for entitlements under awards and the national employment standards. If any staff have used this category previously, please adjust their annual, personal, and long service leave balances for any period of unpaid pandemic leave previously taken.
We have updated the award in line with the Australian Tax Office (ATO) requirements for Single Touch Payroll (STP) Phase two reporting. We are now disaggregating the reporting of gross earnings into distinguishable categories. We have updated the Pay Category payment classifications in line with the ATO specification categories found here.
We have updated the award name to Joinery and Building Trades award 2020 (MA000029) to reflect changes made as part of the Fair Work Australia decision 4-year review of modern awards. We have also made updates to the unpaid pandemic leave allowance templates so that the balance displays in weeks instead of hours in line with Fair Work Commission's guidelines. Once you install the award update, all employees' unpaid pandemic leave balances will display in weeks, not hours. It will mean that an employee’s balance may now show as 76 weeks.

These changes come into effect from the first full pay period on or after 1st July 2021. Please install these updates after you have finalised your last pay run before the first full pay period beginning on or after 1st July 2021.
We have updated the Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) leave category, so that the balance displays in days instead of hours in line with the national employment standards. Once you install the update, all employees' FDV leave balances will display in days, not hours. It will mean that an employee’s balance may now show as 38 days.
We have made this update to make sure that any new installs of this award conducted since 1st July now captures the Super Guarenette increase from 9.5% to 10% for all pay categories. If you have installed this award between 1st July 2021 to 8th July 2021 for the first time, please make sure you select the No option to the Preserve Custom Pay Categories question. If you were using the award before 1st July 2021, then you do not need to select the No option.
We have updated the award pay rate templates to make sure that the legislated superannuation guarantee (SG) rate will increase automatically from 9.5% to 10% effective from 1st July 2021. Please make sure you install this update before 1st July 2021 for this change to take effect.
What does this mean? Any pay run with a date paid on or from 1st July 2021 will automatically calculate SG at 10% of Ordinarly Time Earnings (OTE). Additionally, on the 1st of July, we will update references to 9.5% on all applicable screens in platform. For more information, including any exclusions, check out this article from the ATO.
We have updated the award, as part of group two awards, to reflect the Fair Work Commission’s national minimum wage increase of 1.75% detailed in the annual wage review 2019-20 decision. We have updated the scaffolding allowance rates to reflect changes made in the pay guide. We have also updated the award to reflect the High Court's decision on the accrual of personal/carer's leave. Which overturns the decision made by the Full Federal Court of Australia, with personal/carer's leave calculated on working days, not hours. You can find information on the decision here.
As such, we have removed the personal/carer's (10 days) leave allowance templates and updated associated employment agreements. Please note, this update will not remove any of the above from a business where you installed the award before 25th August 2020. However, any new award installs from 25 August 2020 will not display personal/carer's (10 days) leave details.
We have updated the award pay rate templates to reflect the Australian Taxation Office's decision to increase the cents per kilometre rate for work-related car expense deductions to 72 cents per kilometre. The new rate applies from the first paid date in the 2020-21 financial year.
Also, we have updated the award to reflect changes made as part of the Fair Work Decision four-year review of modern awards. We have created new rules reflecting clause 30.9 time in lieu of overtime, including a TIL of OT work type and tag.

Employees, including part-time and casual employees, are entitled to five days of unpaid family and domestic violence leave each year of their employment. The five days renew every 12 months of their employment, but it will not accumulate if they do not use the full leave balance.
We have created a new Family and Domestic Violence leave category and a new Family and Domestic Violence Leave taken work type. We have also updated the leave allowance templates and any impacted pay conditions rule sets.

We have updated the payment classification settings for allowance-based pay categories as per single touch payroll (STP) requirements. We have also created a new rule called 11.8 Apply Overtime - Over Advanced Standard Hours - Part-Time.The rule reflects the following provisions of clause 11.8:
- The hours worked each day;
- Which days of the week the employee will work;
- The actual starting and finishing times of each day.
Previously, we could only assess the number of hours worked per week for overtime purposes using the existing Apply Overtime - Over Standard Hours - Part Time rule. Now, however, we can assess the advanced standard work hours as set up within the employee's Pay Run Defaults screen. The rule will assess hours as follows:
- Any time worked on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday we wil be deem overtime;
- Any time worked before the start times on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday we will deem overtime; and
- Any time worked after the end times on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday we will deem overtime.
The rule only works where you have setup advanced standard work hours up using start and finish times, not hours only. If you have not set up any advanced standard work hours for a part-time employee, then we will deem all hours will overtime.
The setup of the payroll tax-exempt field in the payroll settings pay categories page replicates the Pay as You Go (PAYG) exempt field rather than creating a unique identity; when installed on your platform. We have carried out an audit across the platform and have now resolved the issue with this update.
We have fixed any auto-meal break rules so that they do not apply to leave requests. We have updated allowance, the pay categories configuration, for example, we changed the payment classifications. Lastly, we created a kilometre allowance pay categories - above and below ATO limits
The award provides for all purpose allowances that you must apply in addition to an employee's base rate of pay for paying penalties and overtime. As such, we have separated the awards into two categories:
Joinery and Building Trades Award 2010 (incorporating All Purpose Industry Allowance and All Purpose Leading Hand Allowance or All Purpose Tool Allowance)
The award is suitable for employees who you assign as leading Hands or for employees who are required to receive an all purpose tool allowance under clause 24.1 (c) (i) of the award. The relevant classifications for leading hands are defined as follows:
- Leading Hand A = employees in charge of 1 employee.
- Leading Hand B = employees in charge of 2 to 5 employees.
- Leading Hand C = employees in charge of 6 to 10 employees.
- Leading Hand D = employees in charge of 11 or more employees.
Additionally, you must pay leading hands at the minimum rate applicable to the highest classification of the employee/s they are supervising or their own minimum rate, whichever is higher.
Joinery and Building Trades Award 2010 (incorporating All Purpose Industry Allowance only)
The award is suitable for employees who are not assigned as Leading Hands or are not required to receive an all purpose tool allowance.

Community service leave | Choose this work type when community service leave is taken as per clause 34 of the award. |
Computing quantities allowance | You should use this work type where you require an employee to regularly compute or estimate quantities of materials for the work performed by other employees. You will pay the employee a daily allowance under clause 24.3 (d) of the award. |
Confined space allowance | You should use this work type where you require an employee to work in a confined space. You will pay an employee an allowance per hour worked in such conditions under clause 24.3 (e) of the award. |
Dirty work allowance | You should use this work type where you require an employee to work in unusually dirty work. You will pay an employee an allowance per hour worked in such conditions under clause 24.3 (f) of the award. |
Explosive powered tools allowance | You should use this work type for each day where you require an employee to operate explosive powered tools. The employee will then be paid a daily allowance under clause 24.3 (g) of the award. |
First aid | You should use this work type where you appoint an employee, trained and qualified in first aid to perform first aid duty. You will pay the employee a weekly allowance under clause 24.2 (a) of the award. |
Grindstone allowance | Where an employee engaged as a carpenter and/or joiner has not been made available a grindstone or wheel by the employer, this work type should be used. The employee will then be paid a weekly allowance under clause 24.3 (g) of the award. |
Heavy blocks allowance A | You should use this work type where an employee is handling, lifting, and placing heavy blocks that weigh over 5.5 kg and under 9 kg. You will pay an employee paid an allowance per hour worked under clause 24.3 (i) of the award. |

Insulation allowance | You would use this work type where you require an employee to handle charcoal, pumice, granulated cork, silicate of cotton, insulwool, slag wool, or any other recognised insulating material of a similar nature. Or you require them to work in the immediate vicinity so as to have an affect from using such substance. You will pay the employee an allowance per hour worked under clause 24.3 (l) of the award. |
LAFHA - meal allowance | You would you use this work type where you direct an employee to proceed to a distant job. The employee should receive a meal allowance for any meals incurred whilst travelling on either the forward or return journey. Select this work type to compensate so you pay the employee an allowance under (a) (iii24.5 (a) (iii) of the award. |
LAFHA - weekend return | You would you use this work type where you direct an employee to proceed to a distant job, and the employee returns to their usual residence on the weekend. You will pay the employee the appropriate allowance under clause 24.5 (a) (xii) of the award. |

You will pay the employee an allowance to cover expenses under clause 24.5 (a) (ii) of the award. |
Money collection - glass and glazing work | You would you use this work type where an employee, engages in glass and glazing work, is authorised, and collects monies for the employer as part of their duties. You will pay the employee a weekly allowance under clause 24.3 (u) of the award. |
No meal break | Half hour unpaid meal breaks are automatically added for shifts over six hours. Use this work type to indicate that no meal break was taken during the shift so that a meal break is not deducted from hours worked. You will pay the employee double time if they take no meal break. |
Personal/carer's leave | Choose this work type when personal or carer's leave is taken as per clause 33 of the award. |
Public holiday not worked | Choose this work type where you do not require an employee to work on a shift falling on a gazetted public holiday that the employee would have otherwise worked on, had it not been a public holiday. |
Roof repairs allowance | You should use the work type where an employee is engaged to repair roofs. You will pay an employee an allowance per hour worked repairing roofs under clause 24.3 (o) of the award. |
Rostered day off taken | Choose this work type when an employee, who has an RDO entitlement, takes a rostered day off under clause 28.2 of the award. |
Rostered day off worked | Choose this work type when an employee, who has an RDO entitlement, works on their rostered day off. You will pay the employee under clause 28.2 (g) of the award. |
Scaffolding allowance | You should use this work type where you require a trades-qualified employee, holding a scaffolding or rigging certificate, to act on that certificate during the course of their duties. You will pay the employee an allowance per hour worked undertaking such duties under clause 24.3 (p) of the award. |
Secondhand timber allowance | You would use this work type where an employee's tools, experience damage by nails, dumps, or other foreign matter on second hand timber, for each day such instance occurs. You will pay the employee a daily allowance under clause 24.3 (q) of the award. |
Spray application allowance | You would use this work type where you engage an employee in all spray applications carried out in other than a properly constructed booth approved by the relevant authority. You will pay the employee an allowance per hour worked undertaking such work under clause 24.3 (r) of the award. |
Stonemasonry tools and equipment allowance | You would use this work type where you require an employee to use their own stonemasonry cutting tools. You will pay the employee an allowance per hour worked using such tools under clause 24.1 (d) of the award. |
Swing scaffold allowance | You would use this work type where you employed an employee on any type of swing scaffold or any scaffold suspended by rope, cable, and bosun's chair. Or on a suspended scaffold requiring using steel or iron hooks or angle irons at a height of six metres or more. You will pay an employee an allowance per hour worked on such scaffold under clause 24.3 (s) of the award. |
Tower allowance - up to 30 metres | You would use this work type where you require employee to work on a chimney stack, spire radio, radio, or television mast or tower, air shaft (other than above ground in a multistorey building), cooling tower, water tower, or silo, where the construction exceeds 15 metres and up to 30 metres in height. You will pay the employee an allowance per hour worked in such conditions under clause 24.3 (n) of the award. |
Tower allowance - up to 45 metres | You would use this work type where your require an employee to work on a chimney stack, spire radio, radio, television mast, or tower, air shaft (other than above ground in a multistorey building), cooling tower, water tower, or silo where the construction exceeds 30 metres and up to 45 metres in height. You will pay the employee an allowance per hour worked in such conditions under clause 24.3 (n) of the award. |
Tower allowance - up to 60 metres | You would use this work type where you require employee to work on a chimney stack, spire radio, radio or television mast, or tower, air shaft (other than above ground in a multistorey building), cooling tower, water tower, or silo, where the construction exceeds 45 metres and up to 60 metres in height. Vehicle allowance | You would use this work type where you engage an employee, in glass or glazing work and require, and authorise them to use their own motor vehicle during their duties. You should enter the kilometres travelled into the Units field. |
Wet work allowance (non-stonemasonry work) | You should use this work type where you require an employee to work in any place where water continually drips on the employee so that clothing and boots become wet or where there is water underfoot. You will pay the employee an allowance per hour worked in such conditions under clause 24.3 (m) (i) of the award. |
Wet work allowance (stonemasonry work) | You would use this work type where you engage an employee in stonemasonry work in a cemetery under unusually muddy or sloppy conditions. You will pay the employee an allowance per hour worked in such conditions under clause 24.3 (m) (ii) of the award. |
Tags
Employee tags are specific conditions typically related to the employee’s agreement. These are often conditions negotiated and agreed between the employer and the employee, or unique characteristics of the employee’s role. Payment of these provisions is usually of a recurring and ongoing nature.
Asbestos allowance | Assign this tag to an employee if they are regularly engaged in using materials containing asbestos or is working near an employee using such materials. You will then not be required to use the associated work type. |
Bagging allowance | Assign this tag to an employee if they are regularly working near an employee engaged in bagging brick or concrete structures. You will then not be required to use the associated work type. |
Close proximity to toxic substances | Assign this tag to an employee if they are regularly working near an employee engaged in using toxic substances or materials of a similar nature. You will then not be required to use the associated work type. |
Cold work allowance | Assign this tag to an employee if they are regularly working for more than one hour in a place where you reduce the temperature by artificial means below zero degrees celsius. You will then not be required to use the associated work type. |
Confined spaces | Assign this tag to an employee if they are regularly working in a confined space. You will then not be required to use the associated work type. |

First aider | Assign this tag to an employee who has been trained to render first aid and who is the current holder of appropriate first aid qualifications, and you appointed in writing to perform first aid duty on a regular ongoing basis. You will then not be required to use the associated work type. |
Glaziers (other than on-factory glazing) | Assign this tag if the employee works as a glazier or an apprentice glazier, engaged other than on factory glazing, and receives industry allowance as per clause 21.3(b)(ii). |
Heavy blocks A | Assign this tag to an employee if they are regularly engaged in handling, lifting and placing heavy blocks that weigh over 5.5kg and under 9kg. You will then not be required to use the associated work type. |
