Singaporean employees are expected to contribute to self-help groups (SHGs) via salary deductions based on their ethnicity and religion, as stated in the NRIC.
The payroll platform allows you to automate SHG contributions based on the employee’s ethnicity, religion, and legal status. It will be automatically calculated as deductions when a pay run is created.
As SHG automation is a new feature introduced in 2024, your business may not have this feature enabled. Please refer to the below steps to request for this feature to be enabled for your business.
- Click the Business Settings menu.
- Click the Payroll Settings submenu.
- Click the Data Extracts button.
- Select the Employee Deductions option from the Data Type drop-down.
- Select Template with Employee Deductions.
- Under File format, select between XLSX or CSV formats.
- Click the Download button.
- In the spreadsheet file you have downloaded, update all of the employee's SHG donations with an expiry date. Please schedule an expiry date which allows for about 1 to 2 working days for the platform to turn this feature on for affected businesses.
- Re-import the file by going to the Payroll Settings submenu.
- Click the Import Pay Run Inclusions button.
- Under Import Type, select Employee Deductions.
- Upload the updated spreadsheet file by clicking Confirm upload.
